Media cabinet, Walthamstow residence
Designed for a client’s London home, this media cabinet is a celebration of spalted hornbeam, a rare native timber with intricate natural marbling. The cabinet features three drop-down doors with a panel and frame construction, and removable shelving. The base is made from scorched oak, and features octagonal legs. Employing traditional joinery, the cabinet’s mitred corners are strengthened with walnut splines, which mirror the rich brown of the hornbeam’s spalting.
The timber was sourced locally, from trees felled in London as a result of urban development or natural causes.
