Mythology is design and craft studio, founded by Sam Pearson and Anna Kidel, based in Bristol, UK.
Celebrating natural materials, our work combines bold, contemporary design with thoughtful craftsmanship.
Art meets function
Blurring the lines between sculpture and function, we create furniture which defines the space it lives in, while honouring the natural beauty of the materials we work with.
We often incorporate organic carved textures into our work, inspired by the environment around us, creating an invitingly tactile surface.
Thoughtful craftsmanship
We work with hand tools as much as possible, respecting time-honoured craftsmanship techniques. This provides a more considered and intimate way of working with our materials, and imprints each piece with the maker’s hand. We also embrace the benefits that power tools can bring to our work when needed.
We take pride in ensuring our work is made to last, ageing gracefully and transcending trends. We love the idea that our furniture will bring joy to our clients for many years to come.
Nature-led design
Our design process is led by a deep-rooted care for the natural environment. Inspired by the beautiful and diverse hardwoods that grow on our doorstep, we source our timber locally when possible.
We carefully select each piece of timber we use in our furniture projects, considering its tone, grain pattern, durability, workability, and provenance.
We sometimes incorporate complimentary natural materials into our work, such as stone and natural fabrics.
About the founders
Mythology began as a personal project—born out of Sam and Anna’s desire to fill their home with beautiful, meaningful objects and a curiosity for making. Their first furniture-making experiments in the back garden quickly sparked a lasting passion for design and craftsmanship.
Mythology was launched in 2019, bringing together the couple’s combined artistry, their deep respect for nature, and a shared obsession with finding the perfect balance between form and function, colour and texture. Sam and Anna design collaboratively, an approach which they believe is invaluable to their work.
Originally founded in East London, Mythology moved its base to Bristol in the summer of 2023.
